Darryl Hammer

Production Designer

Biography

Darryl Hammer is a seasoned Production Designer, having worked in the Film Industry since 1993. Coming from a Fine Arts background, it was an easy progression into scenic painting, to set decoration, and onto Production Design. She has worked on all manner of shows from big budget tent-pole productions, mid-sized prize winners, to smaller arthouse and indie productions, both in Film and Television.

She won a BAFTA in 2013 for the Hitchcock biography “The Girl” and then went on to win a SAFTA for the Dutch feature film “Black Butterflies” based on the life of poet Ingrid Jonker.

Darryl has keen eye for detail and is known for her bold and confident use of colour. Her Fine Arts background gives her sets a painterly quality with tone, texture and balance. She likens her craft to “making 3D paintings” where detail, form and light are the main characters. She enjoys period shows but is equally at home with contemporary material.

Darryl grew up in South Africa, has travelled extensively and currently resides in the UK with her family.
